I got an email from a client today saying she couldn’t comment on updates that her fans published on her wall. Apparently, this is a weird problem that sprang up over night when Facebook changed the privacy setting for all users to only allow comments and likes from friends instead of everyone.

Unfortunately, this problem doesn’t only affect business page administrators. Right now, every Facebook user is experiencing limitations to communicate with non-friends in Facebook common areas, like pages, communities or the news feed.

It’s a real pain in the neck, but if you want the ability for people who you are not currently friends with to comment or like your wall posts, you will need to change your privacy settings.

Here’s the easy fix:

Go to Account > Privacy Settings

Portent Interactive Facebook

Click on Customized Settings

Facebook Customized Settings

Find the Category: Things others share

Things Others Share

In the section ‘Can comment on posts’ click on the dropdown menu and select Everyone. This will allow friends of friends, business page administrators, and strangers the ability to like or comment on your posts.

This is a strange problem, and I expect Facebook to address the situation later today.

Let us know if this helps, or if you’re having any other issues with the new Facebook Profile Changes.
