Travis Kelce Voices Frustration Over Limited Touchdowns This Season

The Kansas City Chiefs’ tight end, Travis Kelce, has expressed his deep frustration over a lack of scoring this season, particularly in the red zone. With only two touchdowns to his name so far, Kelce is eager to break free from this trend.

The Struggle in the Red Zone

In a recent episode of the podcast “New Heights,” Kelce opened up about his struggles, stating, “Where I take a lot of pride is once we get in that red zone, man, I get a little hungrier.” He emphasized that finding the end zone has been elusive for him this year, attributing part of the issue to not being in sync with quarterback Patrick Mahomes. “It can get frustrating, it can get f—ing frustrating, that’s for damn sure,” he admitted.

Jason Kelce, Travis’s brother and Philadelphia Eagles center, pointed out a specific play during the Chiefs’ narrow 19-17 victory over the Las Vegas Raiders that he believed encapsulated Travis’s frustrations. However, Travis clarified that his struggles extend beyond that single moment.

A Missed Opportunity

Travis recalled a particular play where he felt he could have done more to get open for Mahomes. “It’s cover zero. I’m thinking if I don’t have it right now and the ball is still in Pat’s hand, I need to do something else to get open for him,” he explained, reflecting on the miscommunication that led to the missed opportunity.

Despite his seven receptions for 68 yards in that game, Kelce was unable to find the end zone, highlighting the ongoing challenge he faces this season.

A Declining Touchdown Trend

Last season, Kelce’s touchdown count dipped significantly, scoring just five compared to 12 in the previous year. However, he was able to shine during the Chiefs’ playoff run, recording three touchdowns in four games as the team clinched their second consecutive Super Bowl title.

Increased Responsibility

This season, Kelce has made 75 receptions for 627 yards and two touchdowns over 12 games. With the recent injury to wide receiver Rashee Rice, he has taken on an even larger role in the Chiefs’ offense.

Despite the Chiefs boasting an impressive 11-1 record and securing a playoff spot with their win over the Raiders, Kelce remains dissatisfied with his individual performance. He remarked, “As s—ty as I’ve played, you know it does feel good to be in my tenth year in a row making the playoffs man.”

Aiming for Playoff Success

Currently leading the AFC West and holding the No. 1 seed in the conference, the Chiefs are poised for a strong playoff run. They hope to secure a first-round bye, with their next challenge being a crucial matchup against the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday. This game will play a significant role in determining the outcome of the AFC West title.

As the playoffs approach, Kelce’s desire to improve his personal statistics remains strong, and fans are hopeful to see him return to form as the season progresses.
