The first chapter of ‘Avatar’ had nothing less than 162 minutes long (that is, almost two hours and forty minutes) – and the filmmaker has already said that he wants to go further in the sequence.
“I don’t want anyone complaining about the duration, especially since they sit down and marathon [de séries] for eight hours,” he commented. “I can already see that part in the reviews: ‘the agonizing three-hour movie…’. It’s like, leave me alone. I watched five hour-long episodes with my kids. This is the social paradigm that needs to change: it’s okay to get up and go to the bathroom.”
