'Black Panther 2': Director defends targeting women in the franchise

The trailers ofBlack Panther: Wakanda Forever‘ make it clear that the focus of the sequel is on the female characters after the death of T’Challa – and the star Chadwick Boseman.

Instead of reshaping the character, the Marvel decided to give more space to women who were important to the king, such as Queen Ramonda (Angela Bassett), shuri (Letitia Wright) and Nakia (Lupita Nyong’o).

In an interview for CBM, the director Ryan Coogler defended the decision, saying:

“It’s not about highlighting women and giving less space to male characters; it’s about telling an organic story. From the outside you might think it’s some kind of strategy, but these characters already had an established space in the franchise. We’re blessed with an incredible cast that brings these characters to life and makes you want to see what’s going on with Shuri or what’s going on with Okoye and Nakia. Not featuring them would be a disservice to the story, and we didn’t want to add new male characters just to fill tables.”

Even so, it is worth remembering that the feature features the return of martin freeman like Everett Ross, Tenoch Huerta like Namor, and Winston Duke like M’Baku.

Speaking of which, M’Baku will also be much more prominent this time around.

“I will say that M’Baku has more of a presence in this film than the first. Probably with twice as many scenes as he got in the first one. But when we lose someone, we should focus on who was closest to them. In T’Challa’s case, it’s the women around him.”

With debut scheduled for November 10ththe sequence also has Danai Gurira It is Michaela Coel.
