I think it’s worth adding that during the design stage think not where you are now but there you will be in 5 years time with regards to category structure and product entry. You can end up straight-jecketing yourself.
And I don’t think it can be stressed too much that running an e-commerse site is no excuse for bad customer service. I’ve seen several clients ‘hide behind the website’. Good customer sevice always pays dividends no matter how you sell your product!
One final one: Always count the cost of delivery INCLUDING packing costs/time.
