I can only speak for myself (wish I had data on this), but I tend to execute local search queries like: “keyword city state”. These phrases have almost NO place in normal discourse. That’s why a lot of local web design companies rely on spam. How the hell else would you get the anchor “web design tyler texas”? Devaluing exact match anchor text will really help up and coming web design companies stand a chance. Footer links on client sites are way too powerful.
