Apparently, Google’s going to learn that whole, sauce for the goose, sauce for the gander thing.

Mark Pilgrim has written a new add-in for Firefox called Butler. It’s free, and among other things, it removes Google Autolinks from pages you visit.

Now, I’m not going to be adding this to my Firefox browser, because it does some things I don’t like: It add links to other search engines and such.

But I love the irony: Google goes out and writes Autolink, which modifies pages you browse. Now someone else writes something that modified Google results. If Google complains about this, then they’re forced to admit that Autolink is bad. If they don’t they’re letting folks undo Autolink.

I don’t like it when anyone rewrites someone else’s content, online or otherwise, without permission. Google Autolink does that. Butler just gives Google a dose of their own medicine.
