The Blades of Chaos are Kratos’ trademark in the first game of the franchise. They were forged by Ares himself, the ancient god of war to whom the protagonist had sworn loyalty.

It features a set of blades linked by a chain, allowing the character to attack his opponents from a safe distance.

As you progress through the journey, the spartan manages to release several moves for themincreasing the number of attacks the weapon can deliver against enemies.

The blades were lost after the fall of Ares, but Kratos found them and brought them with him to the Norse realm, causing them to also appear in 2018’s God of War. Thus, they were hidden under the floor of his hut, but came into action once again when the protagonist sets out on a new journey in an attempt to cure his son, Atreus.

  • Games in which it appears: God of War 2, Betrayal and Ghost of Sparta.

The Blades of Athena, as the name implies, were forged by Athena to replace the Blades of Chaos in God of War 2.

The new God of War received the equipment as a gift after ascending to the degree of divinity, a title received after he defeated Ares at the end of the first game in the franchise. The attacks made by her are practically the same seen in God of War.

Blades of Exile

Finally, among the initial blades used by Kratos are the Blades of Exile, which only appeared in God of War 3.

These blades, like the previous one, were also forged by Athena – but here, that work is done by the spirit of the goddess – right after he fell into the River Styx, making Athena’s Blades become useless after coming into contact with the souls present in the river.

Among its main features are the ability to summon the spears and shields of exiled Spartan brothershelping to defend Kratos from enemy attacks and dealing a lot of damage to anyone who gets in the way.

Other weapons used by Kratos

Of course Kratos wouldn’t be a God of War using only three weapons. Therefore, we list below other equipment that appeared in the games of the franchise:

  • Artemis Blade;
  • Barbarian Hammer;
  • Spear of Destiny;
  • Blade of Olympus;
  • Gauntlet of Zeus;
  • Hades Claws;
