For those who don’t know her, ackie already won a BAFTA for her role as Bonnie in season 2 of ‘The End Of The F***Ing World’. She also won the British Independent Film Award as the Most Promising Newcomer in 2017 for her performance as Anna in ‘Lady Macbeth’.
In 2019, the star gave life to the character Jannah in ‘Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker’.
Through a statement released in 2020, the director Stella Meghie (‘The Photograph’) celebrated Ackie’s choice and praised his performance during auditions.
“We spent most of the past year in an exhaustive search for an actress who could embody Whitney Houston. Naomi Ackie impressed us at every stage of the process. I was moved by her ability to capture the stage presence of a global icon, bringing humanity to her personal life.”
Remembering that the reproduction of the singer’s troubled story was approved by her own family and will include a large part of her repertoire, such as the songs “I Will Always Love You”, “Greatest Love Of All”, “I Look To You” and the holder“I Wanna Dance With Somebody”.

The biopic will be co-produced by Pat HoustonWhitney’s sister-in-law, as well as by Clive Davis (music producer who discovered the singer), McCarten and Larry Mestel and Denis O’Sullivangives Primary Wave.
‘I Wanna Dance With Somebody’ is described as a “joyful, emotional and moving celebration of the life and music of the greatest R&B pop singer of all time, following her journey from obscurity to musical stardom. While in will be a very frank account of the price that superstardom demanded of her, the biography will also be a rich and complex saga of the search for the perfect marriage between the music, the artist and her audience and, at the same time, the story. heartbreaking scene of a simple Jersey girl trying to find her way back home.”
Whitney was internationally recognized as one of the greatest artists of all time, due to her talent, legacy and, above all, her remarkable and legendary voice. Often called The Voice, the singer has always been compared to great artists of the past, such as Frank Sinatra, Aretha Franklin and Elvis Presley. Houston is among Rolling Stone Magazine’s 500 Greatest Artists of All Time.
The singer has seven studio albums, four soundtracks and five compilation albums. Winner of seven Grammy Awards, Houston saw her career languish due to high cocaine consumption.
The artist died in 2012, in a hotel bathtub, due to atherosclerosis, which caused an imminent lack of oxygen to the brain and traces of cocaine in her bloodstream, which were found during the autopsy – which proves that the drowning was caused by an overdose.
