The Red Hot Chili Peppers were the big honorees of the night at the Video Music Awards 2022 held, this Sunday (28), in the United States. The band formed by Anthony Kiedis, Flea, John Frusciante and Chad Smith received the “Global Icon Honor”, an annual award given to artists who made history in the music world.
With great emotion, the group received the award. “I want to thank MTV for supporting us for a thousand years or more. I really want to thank Flea, John and Chad Smith for giving my life purpose for the last 40 years. I would be a walking disaster if it weren’t for these kids. “, said lead singer Anthony Kiedis.
Another very emotional moment was when the band’s drummer, Chad Smith, paid tribute to his fellow Foo Fighters drumstick, Taylor Hawkins, who died at the age of 50, in March of this year. “There is another musical icon, global icon and his name is my brother Taylor Hawkins. I want to dedicate this award to Taylor and his family. I love you all and miss you every day. Fly high, Hawk.”
The Red Hot Chili Peppers also took the stage at the 2022 VMAs. See the full performance below:
